    FOCUS Meeting Times

    Youth / FOCUS

With over 50 students and adult leaders involved with our new Ministry Teams, exciting things are happening in the land of FOCUS. Here’s a sample of what’s going on.

FUN (Fundraising) Team - $860 at the bake sale. Successful cookbook production and sales. Actively carrying out plans for Trivia Night. Thanks to all you supporters.

GAS (Games and Skits) Team – Has been kinking off each Wednesday night with crazy fun large group activities and games.

HEY (Welcome) Team – Began utilizing a new web-based database to improve communication with and follow-up of guests. Has put together sweet (in the cool way) gift packs for guests.

NEWS Team – Is working on strategies to improve communication and reporting about events and highlights in our ministry, including keeping info updated on the web.

PRO (Programming) Team – Helped create a memorable experience for girls during the Revolve Tour weekend. Has some awesome plans for the upcoming FRIZZIES and Christmas parties on December 13.

ROCK (Prayer) Team – Is recruiting prayer partners and warriors who pray for FOCUS in general and students in particular.

SUM (Summer) Team – Has been working on details for our three ’09 missions trips including a middle school workcamp in St. Louis, high school hurricane relief in New Orleans or Galveston, and a high school English camp in France.

TALK (Teaching) Team – Has helped plan find resources, and provide discussion questions for our Wednesday high school series on “loving well” (issues of dating, sex, and more) and our 6th grace “outreach” series (including visits to a nursing home, helping set up for Slime Time, and raking neighbors leaves).

TECHNO (A/V) Team – Is training students who help run sound and video for Wednesday FOCUS meetings.

TUNES (Worship) Team – Formed two student worship teams who alternate leading our worship on Wednesday nights.

YUM (Food) Team – Enlist fellow students to help provide awesome desserts for the 1st Wednesday Birthday Nights as well as doughnuts every Sunday for the high school Sunday School class.

    2 DEW LIST:
    1. Invite friends to Dec. 13 FOCUS Christmas dinner and FRIZZIES
    2. Eat FREE pizza @ Sunday, Dec. 14 Ministry Teams Lunch
    3. Go to Wednesday FOCUS every Wed but Dec. 24 and 31

    Sunday Morns

Ninth to twelfth graders, check out the youth room on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45. Thought-provoking lessons and scrumptious doughnuts await you! Right now we are delving through thoughts about Creation and thoroughly mulling them over in many ways. This group always has a great sense of how to get deeper into a subject and freely give their ideas. Please join us and let us learn from you as well.

    FOCUS on Wednesdays

    Middle School “123”

(OneTwentyThree, from Psalm 1:1,2,3) meets on Wednesdays in the multipurpose room at 6:30 p.m. for wild and crazy games and activities. The evening will continue in the youth room until 8:30 p.m. with time for singing, praying, discussing and studying God’s Word. Invite and bring your friends!

    High School “20/20”

(from II Chronicles 20:20 "Have faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld.") meets Wednesdays in the youth house 7-8:30 p.m., for Bible study, worship and small groups. Students are welcome to come hang out at the house as early as 6:30 for ping pong, foosball, pinball and more! And as always, we encourage you to reach out to your friends by inviting them to join you one evening!

The Youth Ministry of St. Paul's, affectionately acronymed as Fixed Ophthalmologically on Christ, United in Service, based on Hebrews 12:2 "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus."

    FOCUSing on Focus Upcoming Events

    Focus News December 2008

    “What Will Be”

    “Lights, Camera… Action!”

FRIZZIES will return on Dec 13! Think Oscars (we give awards and have goofy presenters on stage) mixed with film festival (we watch student-made films) mixed with dinner theatre (actually dessert theatre). Unique to this year’s event is that it will be the climactic conclusion of the annual FOCUS Christmas party for middle schoolers and progressive dinner for high schoolers. Guidelines for filmmaking and film-submitting:

    1) FOCUS high schoolers AND middle schoolers are encouraged to submit.
    2) Submit your homemade film according to one of these 3 categories: Featurette Films/Documentaries (think “short movie/story”), Commercials, or Music Videos. You may submit a previously made film if it fits the criteria.
    3) Films must be in good taste (think PG-10 regarding language, subject, and dress).
    4) Films must be less than 5 minutes.
    5) Include any friends or family members as actors. Or can use animation, claymation, or whatever for your actors.
    6) Films must be turned in by Sunday, December 1, for previewing and approval.
    7) Submit as many films as you want.
    8) Remember that the judging system is subjective and probably more goofy than serious. There WILL be a serious award(s) based on the audience’s choice of favorite entry(ies).

    Happy filming!

    YOU’RE ALWAYS INVITED
    FOCUS Wednesdays 6:30-8:30pm.

    • FOCUS Wednesdays, every Wednesday for middle schoolers at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meeting in the Multipurpose Room and “20/20” for high schoolers at 7:00-8:30 p.m. Youth House.
