Ministries SupportedSt. Paul’s supports a variety of ministries in St. Louis, the United States and the world. Below is a list of those ministries we support. You can find out more about them in our missions booklet.
Local Ministries
Bethany Christian Services is a full-service Christian adoption agency. They work with birth mothers who are in a crisis pregnancy situation. They provide housing if needed during their pregnancy. The mothers receive counseling if they plan to place their child for adoption. Bethany helps teach the birth mothers parenting skills if they decide to parent the child and provide tutoring and/or occupational skills so parents may be self-supporting.
The Evangelical Children’s Home provides food and shelter for children who have been abused, abandoned, and otherwise neglected.
Emmaus Homes are residential facilities for mentally and physically handicapped adults. They provide the residents with a home-type environment. They are taught to do chores and other simple tasks. The residents are also involved in making crafts and other items, which are sold to help support the home.
First Light Ministries is a ministry that helps people struggling with homosexuality find hope in Christ. This ministry is a new ministry that is operated in Webster Groves.
The Salvation Army is one of the oldest missions in the United States. They provide help for families who have been affected by disasters of all kinds. In addition to spiritual guidance, they help people get back on their feet, back in society, and self-supporting. Toy Town is one of their Christmas projects to give toys to children 13 years of age and under and money vouchers for food per family. Many volunteers are needed to assist them in their mission. The Tree of Lights is their main money-raising project of the year.
The Salvation Army – Adult Rehabilitation Center affords men the opportunity to regain their self-respect and acquire the life skills needed to take their rightful place in life. The program is designed for the mental, physical and spiritual rehabilitation of the person. The majority of men who come to the center for assistance are having problems in many areas of their lives, i.e., social, medical, spiritual, personal, and employment. The common factor for most of these persons is that of addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. These services are provided at no cost.
The New Life Evangelistic Center is an inner-city mission. They provide food, shelter, clothing, the Word of God, and the Love of Christ to the homeless and low- income families of St Louis. They also have a TV station (Channel 24) which broadcasts "good" TV shows like early TV did. They are expanding their TV and radio ministries in the state of Missouri and Arkansas.
Jubilee Community Church is an inner-city church in St. Louis that is reaching out to the neighborhood around the church with the love of Christ.
Jubilee Community Development Center stands alongside Jubilee Community Church, an arm of empowerment for neighborhood interaction. So far, Jubilee’s commitment to its St. Louis community involves a drug and alcohol dependency program outreach, a jobs training and placement program, and a new housing effort.
St. Louis Pregnancy Resource Center is devoted to the commission of providing the truth about God’s plan for each woman’s life, equipping them in parenting, meeting physical needs, and walking them through the painful journey of healing and forgiveness for past abortions when that is the case. They give women the tools, information, and liberty to make the decision for adoption and the truth about abstinence and the freedom it can bring to their lives.
World Impact is in St. Louis to evangelize and disciple the unchurched urban poor for Christ through a combination of planting indigenous churches and supporting those churches through holistic ministries that demonstrate the Gospel. Evangelism is provided through Bible Clubs, Bible studies, worship services, tutoring, job training, and recreation. Kelly Schjenken, a member of St. Paul’s, is the director of World Impact in St. Louis.
National Ministries
Focus on the Family is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the home. Headed by Dr. James Dobson, this ministry produces several radio programs and magazines as well as family oriented books, films, videos, and audiocassettes, all from a Christian perspective.
The Family Research Council is an organization committed to assuring that the rights, interests, and values of the family are heard and respected in the formulation of public policy in Washington, D.C.
Sun Valley Indian School is committed to providing Native American children with a quality Christian education. The school provides an education plan for children in elementary, junior, and senior high grades in a clean, warm, and safe boarding school environment, where the children live under the loving and prayerful care of dedicated dorm parents. The school is staffed by qualified and caring people who exemplify the love of God through their lifestyles and who have a "missionary heart" for their Native American students.
International Ministries
World Relief is a Christian organization, wholly owned by churches, which responds to world disasters and helps the poor both physically and spiritually. Many agencies respond in these circumstances, but many are not Christian organizations and just give physical help but no spiritual help at all. People need both physical and spiritual help in disasters, wars, and other problems. World Relief also has special community banks to loan money to people too poor to get loans from commercial banks. These loans (many as little as $20.00) can start a small business, which helps support their families. The loans are repaid over time so others can borrow funds. They also give help and advice in starting and running a small business.
MAP International is an organization that promotes the total health of people living in the world’s poorest communities by partnering in the provision of essential medicines, the promotion of community health development, and the prevention and eradication of disease.
